As I walked away from this Utah extended family photos session at the Utah State Capitol, I realized something really special about what had just happened. During a time where there is so much civil unrest and divisiveness, a family came together in love, joy, and kindness to the capitol of our state, wearing our nation’s colors, while people were peacefully protesting and marching around us in unity. It was incredible.
I couldn’t help but think, if only everyone could love each other like this family loves each other… if only everyone could smile and laugh with one another like this family… if only everyone could come together with common purpose like this family… if only… I wonder how things would be different.
We cannot fix the world and all the complexities it carries, but we can each try to do our part to be kind to others, even when we disagree! We can communicate with kindness and respect, even when we disagree! We can validate and lift each other up, yes, even when we disagree.
Let’s all try just a little harder to do a little better. We can show the people with whom we associate a better way to live and we can teach our children. We can all do our part to be a light!!
