There was nothing typical or normal about their Highland Gardens Reception and Provo City Center Temple wedding or their wedding planning, but it was absolutely perfect in every way!!
The coronavirus has flipped so many things upside down, around, and who knows what other directions. It has left most engaged couples scrambling to piece together a wedding when guidelines and restrictions for buildings and gatherings are constantly changing. It also changed when we were able to photograph engagements because the state of Utah shut me down!
“And then covid happened…” will be a phrase this couple will probably be saying for the rest of their lives. They had so many beautiful traditional wedding plans in place, and then covid happened… But despite all the challenges of planning a wedding during a pandemic, these two have been so incredibly adaptable through all the huge set backs and changes. And instead of choosing discouragement and disappointment, they chose gratitude and joy. That is why these two are going to live a long and happy life together. They have their foundation built on the right stuff.
As a photographer, trying to photograph a wedding in traditional ways during anything BUT normal and traditional times, it was the strangest thing to be stuck outside the temple gate when they came out, using my long lens to try and get some photos of them through the gate. The timeline was also very different. Instead of a reception, they had a quick ring ceremony and luncheon at the Highland Gardens Reception Center with their close friends and family. The evening was spent up in the mountains for a formals session to make up for the inablity to have traditional temple photographs.
It was all a huge and beautiful adventure and these two were the happiest bride and groom!!
Dear Lauren and Tanner,
After two long months of being cooped up in my home with 4 crazy children and not being able to work due to covid, your engagement session and spending time with you two literally breathed life back into me. You brought so much joy and laughter with you that I so desperately needed at the time. You both are such a light to everyone who knows you and I am so deeply grateful that I was able to become your friend during this time when darkness was so prevalent. I will forever cherish those memories of laughter and fun that we had on our adventure together and I can’t wait to see where life takes you two!
